Hear Him

Where I Can Clearly Hear Him

Relating Science to Scripture

You may not know this about me but I tend to jump down the rabbit hole on the regular.

I was listening to a podcast and ‘brain waves’ were mentioned. I was intrigued.  So, down the rabbit hole I went.  When I came back up for air, this is what I learned.

Just about now you’re asking yourself ‘why is Jennifer teaching us about brain waves’?

Well, let me just tell you!

Because I LOVE it when I can take science and relate it to scripture.

So….hang with me here. I have a story to tell.

First, here’s your lesson on brain waves……

There are five brain waves. Brain waves have electrical activity and each set of waves has their own speed and are measured in cycles per second.

  • Gamma: Over 30 cycles per second
  • Beta: Above 12 cycles per second
  • Alpha: 8-12 cycles per second
  • Theta: 4-8 cycles per second
  • Delta: .1-3.5 cycles per second

Here’s the function of each.

Gamma waves are associated with peak concentration and high levels information processing. Gamma is the brainwave state of being ‘in the zone.’

Beta waves are characteristics of a strongly engaged mind. A person in active conversation would be in beta.

Alpha waves are used when a person has completed a task and sits down to rest.  A person who takes time out to reflect or meditate is usually in an alpha state.

Theta waves (MY FAVORITE) are connected to creativity, intuition, daydreaming and is repository for memories, emotion and sensations. They are strong during internal focus, meditation, prayer and spiritual awareness. It relates to the subconscious mind.

Delta waves are when you are in deep dreamless sleep. We descend into sleep from beta to alpha to theta and then delta. In the reverse is how we wake up.

We’re going to concentrate on theta waves for the rest of this blog and this brings me to how science relates to scripture.

The day after hearing the podcast about brain waves and I jumped down the rabbit hole, my Bible study led me to think about the importance of intentionally moving into theta waves. The study was in Matthew 6:30-33 and talked about the need to let God handle the day to day stuff. Our focus should be on God’s reality, His initiative and His provisions. Then came the scripture that pulled it all together.

Have you read the Passion Translation of Psalm 23?

I hadn’t.

Read this…..

  1. “The Lord is my best friend and my shepherd. I always have more than enough.
  2. He offers a resting place for me in his luxurious love. His tracks take me to an oasis of peace, the quiet brook of bliss.
  3. That’s where he restores and revives my life. He opens before me pathways to God’s pleasure and leads me along in his footsteps of righteousness so that I can bring honor to his name.”

Psalms 23:1-3 TPT

Ok…hold on…..

Remember, theta waves happen when we get quiet.

It’s in the peace (theta waves),
the place we go during prayer
that He restores and revives us.

We find that place of peace in His love. He leads us along in His footsteps where He has ALREADY been and prepared His purpose and plan for us.

I think sometimes I make it too complicated. I want to ‘do’ when He wants me to stop. I want to google, read and research while He wants me to close my eyes, pray and allow my brain waves to cycle down from gamma to theta where I can clearly hear Him.

But it doesn’t have to be complicated. As I let Psalm 23 sink in, I felt a direct correlation between what I learned about brain waves and the system He created in Psalm 23. I can see the step down of electrical current in our brains as I read the first three verses.

Do you see it too?

My prayer for you today my friend is that you take some time from your business and discover how you can meditate on scripture. I ask our loving Father to clearly show you how to cycle down your brain waves to theta waves. I pray that as you find that place of love and peace that you hear the Holy Spirit in a way you’ve never experienced.  For your business, I pray for new clients who find you from old marketing, receipt of payments from long overdue invoices and a refreshing and a renewing of creative ideas and witty inventions to blast a whole new life into your business.  I pray all of this in Jesus Name, Amen

Humbly Yours,

Jennifer Edwards
