We Are Here To Keep His Plan Going

We Are Here To Keep His Plan Going

I had a blog almost completed about a catfish carcass falling out of a tree. But, I had an interesting thought this morning while reading in the book of John chapter 14. I knew I needed to put the dead fish on hold and go with this new thought.

But first, let me tell you a little story ……

Once Ron and I had our management team in place, we could leave for business trips and feel confident that everything we’d taught them would make it possible for us to leave and enjoy our time. It was so nice.

Our team knew our expectations, what needed to be completed and how to make it happen.

We wanted our team to be successful because in our absence, it was after all, our business they were running. If they hit a snag or something happened outside their purview, they called. They knew they could reach out to us and we’d be there to answer.

John 14 is a conversation between the disciples and Jesus.  They are asking questions about him leaving.  Jesus is patiently answering.

Jesus told the disciples that they’d need to carry on, and said to just ask for what they need. He told them he’d take care of it. There was nothing in that moment which would indicate they needed to stretch, strain, strive or struggle in the asking.

Verse 12-14

I tell you this timeless truth: The person who follows me in faith, believing in me, will do the same mighty miracles that I do – even greater miracles than these because I go to be with my Father! For I will do whatever you ask me to do when you ask me in my name. And that is how the Son will show what the Father is really like and bring glory to him. Ask me anything in my name, and I will do it for you!

When we reach out to Jesus to ask about what’s next, won’t he willingly answer those questions?

He has a bigger stake in the success of the plan than even we do.

It’s just like when an employee is doing what we left them to do while we’re away. They call because they’re stuck and we give them an answer. They reach out because there’s something only we can do to move the plan forward, so we make the phone call or remove the obstacle so they can continue.

At the moment Jesus began explaining to the disciples that He was leaving, was the moment Jesus’ plan on earth was transferred to the them.

Friend, we are them.

We are Jesus’ disciples still to this day.

His same plan still needs us.

Today is no different than back then.

Here’s the point I’m trying to make……

We are here to keep His plan going.

We are skilled and have experience. He trusts us because we’ve spent time with Him to know His plan. He knows we can’t know everything and He wants to hear from us because He enjoys our company. We reach out when we hit a snag in the plan or there’s an obstacle only He can move. Just like us as employers, he is right there to help because its’ HIS plan, just like its OUR business.

Here’s my prayer for you today….

God, please give a firm and confident confirmation to the person reading this that the plan they are following is directly from You. If it is not, simply show them what they need to do to shift or pivot and then give them Your peace that passes all understanding.  I pray for my business owner friends who have hit a snag and need to hear from you. I pray they find a quiet moment to get alone with you and seek your face.  I pray for my friend who needs you to move an obstacle that only you can move. I pray their relationship with you strengthens beyond anything they could possibly imagine.  I ask all of this in Jesus Name, Amen.

Humbly Yours,

Jennifer Edwards
