“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.”
~ Albert Einstein
“You will get everything you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want.” ~ Zig Ziglar
To me, these two quotes go together.
When I started my business, I decided that I was going to use Zig’s quote as the basis of my business. I would do my best to find ways to help others and, in the process, I would find people who needed to pay for my services. This worked. Like Albert said, I found ways to be of value and didn’t focus so much on success. I kept my head down and when I finally did look up, I realized I was helping people. This was my heart’s desire from the beginning.
All of this takes much prayer and seeking. Our businesses change often until we finally get to the place God wants us. My business doesn’t look much like it did on day one, or day 41 or day 101 or 401.
Did I get derailed and get on the “Crazy Train” that took me in directions I was never meant to go? Yep! And when that wasn’t working, I got myself off of the “Crazy Train” and back onto the “Jennifer Train” by seeking God and asking the Holy Spirit to be my guide.
I wish that I could have known from the first day and just jumped three years, to where I am today. However, I had to go through all the things.
- I had to experience the rejections.
- I had to experience the clients not following what I knew in my heart of hearts was in their best interest.
- I had to experience the successes so that I knew what it looked like.
It was all stepping stones to where I am today.
All experiences.
All gathering of knowledge.
All worth the learning process.
If your business doesn’t look like what you imaged it would, why is that?
Is it because you got derailed from your original passion? Or is it because God took you through a process like mine?
Today, I just want you to know you’re not alone. Because I help owners, I see this play out over and over.
It’s perfectly ok if you’ve gone around the world to get across the street. You’ve learned A LOT in that process and it has made you a better business person.
My prayer for you today is that God helps you see the lessons in your process and helps you forget the parts which make no difference for His plan. I pray for your business to prosper even though from the world’s point of view, that is impossible. I ask for you to seek scripture to counteract anything you hear, see or read which does not line up with His Word. I pray that you work and live by God’s standards but judge yourself based on His grace. I pray that you have both new clients and returning clients who see your value, just like God sees your value. Oh, and I also pray YOU see your value that way God sees your value. I pray all of this in Jesus Name, Amen
Humbly,
Jennifer Edwards
